The inaugural night of Super League Kerala in Kochi was nothing short of spectacular, with fans treated to a high-energy show featuring the renowned percussionist Sivamani and a star-studded lineup, including a glamorous appearance by actress Jacqueline Fernandez. The opening ceremony set the tone for an exhilarating start to the league.
In the first match, Malappuram FC, led by Indian footballer Anas Edathodika, emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over Forca Kochi FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, which was filled with fervent supporters. Malappuram FC made a strong start, with Spanish forward Pedro Javier Manzi heading in a cross from Nandhu Krishna just three minutes into the game, giving Forca Kochi’s goalkeeper Subhasish Roy Chowdhury little chance to react. The lead was extended in the 40th minute when Faslurahman capitalized on a long ball from Anas, flicked on by Manzi, to score the second goal, ensuring a solid win for Malappuram.
The launch of Super League Kerala has generated significant excitement among local football fans, as evident from the enthusiastic turnout. The 2024 season features six teams: Calicut FC, Kannur FC, Forca Kochi FC, Malappuram FC, Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC, and Thrissur Magic FC, competing in a home-and-away format.
